Graduate Teaching Assistant

Thomas Macaluso is serving as a graduate assistant with the University of Wisconsin bands, specializing with the low brass section, and is currently working towards earning his Doctorate of Musical Arts in trombone at UW-Madison.  He comes to Wisconsin after receiving his Master of Music degree in trombone performance at the University of Louisville.  In addition to his studies at the University of Louisville, Tom was awarded a graduate teaching assistantship and scholarship based on performance and scholarly ability. While in Louisville, he taught private lessons to trombone majors, conducted the trombone ensemble, coached brass chamber groups, lead early morning warm-ups, and actively freelanced in the Louisville metropolitan area.  In recent years, Tom has directed and participated in low brass ensembles at both the Kentucky Music Educators Association conference and the New York State School Music Educators Association conference.  Earning his bachelors in music education from SUNY Potsdam, he has also worked with a competitive High School Marching band in Long Island, New York, taught elementary school band, and private instrumental lessons.
