Interested in joining the UW-Madison Marching Band? At this point, we are preparing to resume in-person marching band activities this summer. To help prospective members prepare for auditions and the upcoming marching season, we will host three summer sectionals.

Attending one or more sectionals is the first step toward a successful audition. They are highly encouraged and free of cost for auditioning members. Learn playing and marching techniques that are fundamental to our program.

  • To participate, you must be enrolled at UW-Madison (Fall 2020).
  • Location: Mosse Humanities Building, 455 N. Park St., Madison.(Arrive by 9:30 AM!)
  • Parking: City of Madison State Street Campus Ramp, 415 N. Lake St.
  • Wear appropriate closed-toe athletic footwear and comfortable clothing for outdoor summer weather.
  • Bring a water bottle and money for lunch.

We regret to inform you that under the guidance of public health and medical professionals, the University of Wisconsin-Madison Campus and Mead Witter School of Music have decided to cancel the 2020 UW Varsity Band Spring Concert due to concerns over the coronavirus.

UW-Madison Marching and Varsity Bands

Anyone who has ever been a member of the Marching and Varsity Bands won’t hesitate to tell you that the four years they participated were some of the most exciting times in their life. There have been trips, concerts, exciting games, and innumerable special events. High points over the years include nine appearances in the Rose Bowl and performances in Tokyo, Tampa, San Antonio, Nashville, Tucson, El Paso, Birmingham, Shreveport, and New York City. Travel includes visits to Big Ten stadiums throughout the Midwest and Lambeau Field to perform during Green Bay Packers games. In Madison, the Marching Band performs weekly in Camp Randall Stadium for more than 80,000 fans during Badger football games. Keeping with tradition, up to 50,000 fans regularly stay after the conclusion of the games to enjoy the famous Fifth Quarter.
